We at Glass Aid support the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. We are doing this in several ways. To begin with Glass Aid has collected and donated $1211, for 2009. Much of that money stays in Oklahoma supporting research, along with helping the estimated 21,000 Oklahomans that are affected by MS. We are offering those that have a chip or small crack on their windshield an easy way to make a donation. So What Is Multiple Sclerosis (MS)?
Multiple Sclerosis is an autoimmune disease of the central nervous system. For an unknown reason the body's immune system, the same one that protects a person from infection and colds, suddenly attacks the myelin coating around the nerves in the spinal cord and brain. Each person with MS has unique symptoms, however the results, as the disease progresses, can include loss of the ability to walk, loss of feeling or use of a hand, blurred vision, or blindness.
Multiple Sclerosis is the number one disabling disease among young adults.
No cure exists but great strides have been made to manage the disease and many can lead somewhat normal lives.
The cost to manage MS is high, with basic drugs running $2000 or more a month. This doesn't count regular tests that are required, like blood tests or an MRI which can cost $3000 or more. Many insurance companies don't pay for MS treatment, so the individual must pay. If you are fortunate to have insurance through your work that will pay for your MS treatment and you lose your job or can no longer work due to the MS you will be labeled with a preexisting condition; insurance companies will no longer pay for your treatment. That is just one of the ways the National Multiple Sclerosis Society helps out.
You create a win - win situation when you choose to support our effort. By performing a windshield chip repair, you prevent a crack and you save money over windshield replacement. At the same time you help support those in Oklahoma with MS.
As a final thought on this matter, consider the following.
Never being able to play catch with your son.
Not being able to walk down the aisle with your daughter on her wedding day.

You never being able to play a sport like basketball, baseball, football or bowling again.
