Insurance And Your Right To Choose In Oklahoma
Many don’t realize that if they have comprehensive insurance coverage on their auto or truck and get a chip on their windshield that many insurance companies will pay for the repair. Regardless of what the deductible amount is. Yes, they will waive the deductible and at Glass Aid many times we can bill them direct for your windshield repair; saving you any out of pocket expense.
Currently in Oklahoma GHS, Mercury Insurance, Safe Auto and State Farm are the only insurance companies that we know of that won’t waive deductibles for windshield repair.
Our experience is that generally comprehensive auto insurance claims have no affect on insurance rates unless you have numerous other claims. If you have any questions you should contact your agent. AMPAC or American National customers if you have the roadside assistance coverage your bonus should not be affected as windshield repair is included in the plan.
Please keep in mind that if you call the 800 number for glass claims from your insurance company you are most likely talking to a third party hired by your insurance company. Many of these third party glass claim management companies have ties to glass repair and replacement shops that may try to steer you into their own shops. At least one of these is foreign owned and any profits they make are sent overseas.
Here in Oklahoma by law you have the right to choose the windshield repair company that repairs your windshield. This right is guaranteed under the Oklahoma Statues, Title 36 Insurance, Chapter 1 – Insurance, Code, Article 12A-1 Unfair Insurance Claims Settlement Practices Act, Section 1250.8 – Methods To Apply For Adjustment & Settlement Of Motor Vehicle Total Losses. The exact portion of this statue is section “H” which reads:
“H. An insurer or its representative shall not require a claimant to obtain motor vehicle repairs at a specific repair facility. An insurer or its representative shall not require a claimant to obtain motor vehicle glass repair or replacement at a specific motor vehicle glass repair or replacement facility.”
