What will the repair look like?

This depends on several factors, including the type of chip, the amount of damage, the age of the chip (how long you have had the chip) and the amount of contaminates that have gotten into it. Generally the impact point looks like a small water spot on all chips. Naturally an impact point that is large and is severely broken, will have more distortion than a small impact point.

  • Stars and Cracks - These usually repair the best, usually next to invisible. Once repaired you may get a slight reflection in just the right light. Because the impact point is usually small, most customers have trouble locating the damage after the repair.
  • Bullseyes and Combinations - These usually vary in appearance. First this type of damage is similar to a B-B hole in standard plate glass. The difference is that since only the outside layer of glass is damaged, the cone is trapped in the windshield.  After the repair, looking from the inside out, you may see a slight clear outline where the damage was. We have performed repairs where they are virtually unnoticable and yet others are visible; there is no way to predict this appearance. We believe this is caused by the vinyl being dented, and there is a relationship between impact force vs. softness of the vinyl.

You can make a difference by keeping the damage clean and getting the repair done in a timely fashion. Check out the link below "Chip Do's and Don'ts".
